Volunteer/Mentor Training Report

A good time was had by all on January 9 as fifteen committed women gathered
to prepare for our upcoming Spring 2010 class. We have a full
class of ten women and teachers to teach the classes, except
nutrition, but God will work through that and provide.
We reviewed metrics demonstrating that between 20 and 24% of children in our schools in southern Galveston County live in poverty and need their mothers contributing financially to be able to help them stop the generational poverty cycle.
We looked at how many women in our area receive food stamps and funding from the government.
The harvest is plentiful.
Then we looked to understand how women in poverty look at life and church. In order to help them we need to see the world through their eyes. We seek first to understand. Then we help them with their needs. They will then allow us to teach them.
Then, we began to learn how to help them help themselves.
We thank everyone who supports CWJC here in Galveston County. You make all this possible. Thank you FBC La Marque for the use of your facilities and the help your people gave us that day.
